…a swirl of Latin American rhythms that filled the air while my parents went about their weekend routines. My dad had an impressive record collection, and on those slow, sunny mornings, the needle would drop on something fiery and full of life. Salsa, bolero, cumbia — I didn’t always know the difference back then, but I knew how it felt.
That music became part of me. The pulse, the warmth, the emotion — and, of course, the Spanish language that danced so beautifully with the melodies. It’s funny how sound can transport you back to childhood. Every trumpet, every guitar flourish brings a flash of memory: laughter, sunlight through the kitchen window, and that unmistakable Latin groove.
So maybe it was no surprise that when I first heard Los Lobos in the 1980s — blending their Mexican roots with American rock, blues, and folk — I was instantly hooked. Their music felt both familiar and new, deeply rooted yet free-spirited. I bought all their records, one after another, and wore out the grooves on my turntable, soaking in every note, every harmony, every story they told.
It’s been a while since I bought a new Los Lobos album, but they’re still in my regular rotation — streamed on my favorite platforms, always ready to rekindle that connection between past and present.
And now, when AERIALIS K teams up with Aerialyn to create a tribute album to the one and only Los Lobos… well, you don’t have to ask me twice. Some influences just never fade — they grow, evolve, and echo through everything you create. This project isn’t just a nod to musical heroes — it’s a full-circle moment, a heartfelt salute to the rhythms that shaped who I am.
This weekend, I finished the tribute album and submitted it to a variety of streaming platforms, so you can experience a taste of the Sunday mornings from my childhood.
If you don’t have the patience to wait for this distribution, you can have a sneak peek here!
¡Viva la música!
